This botanical garden is extensive and lies across an area of 528 hectares on the foothills of the Eastern buttress of Table Mountain of which 36 hectares are developed.
Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden has plenty to offer: a collection of Southern African plants which includes rare and endangered species, a Fynbos garden, Cycad garden, Medicinal plants, Arboretum and a Conservatory with a remarkable collection of succulents.
A walking tour will provide you with panoramic views, indigenous plants, forests, a treetop canopy walkway known as the Boomslang and easy footpaths.
There are a lot of places where you can shorten or lengthen the route depending on your fitness level. There are benches to rest or just sit and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the garden and enjoy the bird life and flora of the area.
You can end the walk with refreshment at the local tearoom.
“Irene spent the afternoon taking us around the Botanical Gardens and pointing out so much we would not have found on our own . She went at our pace and level of knowledge and made it relaxing and informative . Highly recommended”
David and Geraldine Haley Nov 2016.
